Bad managers hate collaboration apps

Posted on 19. Aug, 2009 by in Collaboration Biz, Features

There is only one single group of people that hate collaboration tools and applications. Bad managers.

They hate things like Huddle with a vengeance. All that transparency, the focus on actually doing work as opposed to obsessing and moaning about processes, not to mention the quick feedback and dialogue! All really bad things as far as rubbish bosses are concerned.

They tend to control information as a way of keeping themselves relevant, delaying decisions, nitpicking over the same irrelevant things day after week after month after year. The really loopy ones stop their team from speaking to the client’s team!

Crazy. With a collaboration app all of that becomes impossible. And the crap manager becomes a crap former manager. Hurrah!

More about Jaan

jaan_orvet_sharpenr_dot_netWeb Strategist Jaan Orvet has a passion for good user experiences and improving the way people collaborate.

He believes the way we work and the tools we use all affect our final deliverables. He wants to cut out complexity, do away with ‘extras’ and turn a blind eye to ‘feature rich’ in favour of clarity and simplicity.

Jaan co-authored ‘Noded – The untouchable business‘ with fellow Swede Andreas Carlsson. The Noded philosophy is based on logical and natural ways of interacting with people, nurturing ideas, and doing a better job without the constraints of traditional business life. Collaboration, especially among people who are geographically far apart, is at the heart of Noded.

In the Spring of 2009 Internetworld magazine listed Noded together with Twitter, Apple, Nintendo Wii, and Threadless as companies and ideas that “got it right” and are leading the way to the future.

its funny you say that. i’ve been quite intrigued by the mixed reactions ive received as i’ve introduced collab tools to a variety of teams. the best teams embrace them immediately and realise the benefits, but some old school managers have really struggled with them – its quite a culture shock to those who have previously managed to keep transparency at bay!

Thanks, yes it’s truly some people’s worst nightmare come true. And a wish come true for the 99% of the rest of the population.

Btw, your local gov PM project seems like an interesting initiative!
