Z is for The End

Z is for The End

I’m a little ambivalent about this final post of the A to Z series. My right side is sighing with relief because sticking to such a strict list has been a challenge to my creative impulses. My left side is weary because it was happy for the fall back on those days that I felt less that creative.

However, this is the end and looking back at this series I’ve realised how amazing online collaboration really is. It is no longer a sometimes boring techie discussion board where code problems are listed and solved. No, it is so much more.

People who have never physically met use collaboration to come up with the most creative ideas. One of my favourites is a blogging collaboration called I wrote this for you.  The moderators are two guys who live on opposite ends of the earth. The photographer, Jon, lives in Tokyo, Japan and the writer, Iain, in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. They have never met but every day there is a beautiful post with Iain’s writing and Jon’s photo on their blog.

For me this is what collaboration really is. It’s not all these phrases and terms coined by businesses. In the end, collaboration is the joy you get from finding and talking with someone whom you probably never would have even known about before the internet. It’s when you allow for the magic to happen when you work together on a piece of music, a poem, lyrics or even a new software product.
