Huddle in the real world.
Bright One
Bright One PR agency Huddles for charity communications.
Bright One is a volunteer-run communications agency for the third sector. The organisation was formed in September 2008 with the aim of providing charities with effective yet reasonably priced communications support, while giving communications professionals the opportunity to work on projects that really make a difference and learn valuable new skills.
"Keeping our virtual office in Huddle has been a huge efficiency driver for us. When you add the benefits it brings in terms of improving collaboration, Huddle has become central to our day-to-day operations. We couldn't make the difference we are making without it."
- Ben Matthews, Founder
From the early days, Bright One has used Huddle to liaise with its entire base of volunteers - currently 20 communications professionals - working from outposts all over the UK. Bright One's client projects are typically run virtually, with volunteers working remotely from places such as London, Bournemouth, Brighton and Manchester.
Bright One delivers extremely effective communications programmes to its clients and as a part of this, it needs to propagate a team feeling amongst its workers even though they are remote. Huddle is the place where all volunteers can feel part of the team, access all needed information, collaborate and communicate with each other.
"I don't think we could operate without Huddle. Our volunteers love it, it makes us more efficient and we have a higher level of accessibility," said Bright One founder Ben Matthews.
Having 11 workspaces currently, Bright One holds documents like press releases, target media lists and other core communications materials in Huddle. One of the primary business benefits cited by Bright One is that Huddle has encouraged better collaboration between volunteers on living documents.
"More people are likely to get involved with working on living documents because it's so easy in Huddle. The online editing and commentary functions are so easy - and we can brainstorm over the whiteboards and wikis. I have noticed better collaboration as a result of having this tool," explains Matthews.
Much of the work that Bright One volunteers have been involved with has made a real difference to the world. Some of the projects include Pants to Poverty, an ethical trade organisation that manufactures undergarments in the developing world with fair trade agreements, and Refugee Week, dedicated to demonstrating the positive impact refugees have on the UK. Bright One also works with Junction49, a Time-Bank project created to enable young people aged 16-25 years old to share and develop ideas to make a difference, both online and offline.
"We are here to change the world. Keeping operational costs at a minimum is part of our ethos so charities can access the same first class business services as a full service agency would provide. Keeping our virtual office in Huddle has been a huge effciency driver for us. When you add the benefits it brings in terms of improving collaboration, Huddle has become central to our day-to-day operations. We couldn't make the difference we are making without it," said Matthews.
