Last week, no fewer than 16 intrepid Huddlers took part in the JP Morgan Corporate Challenge, a 5.6km running race through leafy Battersea Park.

The runners and the vociferous cheering crew alike were pleased to see the morning’s torrential downpour subside to leave London bathed in glorious sunshine in time for a gentle warm up and some light stretching!

The JP Morgan Challenge is a huge event with around 26,000 runners across two nights. Many of the Huddle team had never taken part in a race before so there were plenty of nerves and excitement on display. Before long it was time for the starter’s gun (fired by legendary celebrity guest Peter Shilton, no less) and we were off!

Despite rubbing shoulders with teams from most of London’s biggest companies, including the likes of Deutsche Bank, KPMG and HSBC, the plucky Huddle team brushed aside all thoughts of an inferiority complex to turn in some pretty impressive performances.

The top four finishers formed the Huddle ‘A’ team and, perhaps surprisingly, all four came from the geeks in the Product Engineering team.  The fab four (with their finishing times) were:

Dan ‘The Weapon’ Williams – 21:05 (pictured in full flight below)
Bulat ‘The Bullet’ Yapparov – 22:04
Colin ‘Hop-Along’ Grossman – 24:48 (despite hobbling round with a dodgy achilles)
…and the housewives’ favourite Luke Taylor – 27:18

Special mention also to Ash Bilodeaux, the fastest lady with a time of 29:30 and to Steve Robinson who struggled on to the finish in 29:31 after his calf “popped loudly.” Afterwards the team and the cheerleading crew retired to a local hostelry for the traditional post race meal of champions – pizza, deep fried cheese and beer.

Very well done to all the runners and we’ll see you there next year!
